Kristina is sitting on her sofa and trying to learn the driving theory. She enrolled for a driver training course two moths ago and has had her first driving lessons in the city traffic. They have been tough – controlling the car is still a bit difficult for her and she does not have time to notice traffic signs, pedestrians and the other hundred things a driver should notice. Worst of all: she mixes up the signs all the time. She’ll never get the licence if she continues like this.
After long day at work, it is difficult to focus. She is reading the conventinal material for learning traffic signs: a book with the regulation on traffic signs. Long sentences in legal jargon are as clear as mud. Kristina feels tired and frustrated, but she has to learn to know the signs some way.
Suddenly, she has an idea: there has to be an app for it. She grabs her smartphone and searches for “liiklusmärgid” in Google Play. She gets two results and installs them both. The first one is a disappointment: she can only look at the signs and see the copy-and-paste text from the regulation. Not too helpful.
The second one seems to be more promising. First, it looks better. She opens the first grouping of signs. The images are crisp and explanations comprehensible. Kristina likes that they point out signs you might mix up. She uses the search to find blue signs with arrows that confuse her all the time. There are even short animations to demonstrate what the sign requires the driver to do. She looks an animation for one-way road sign and finally understands a mistake she did in the previous driving lesson.Then Kristina notices the testing part and gets absorbed in the interactive exercises. Only when her husband reminds her that they have to wake up early tomorrow, does she close the app.

Traffic Signs Project 
I find the scenario realistic. I also might search for an app or flashcard like thing to start memorising the signs. I would like the app enables me to tag or categorise signs, like the ones i have difficulty to remember.
The animation and what to do in this situation feature also seems useful.

Were there any details that didn’t seem that realistic?
-well, at first i didn’t believe that there will be just 2 search results in app store! but i did the search in my phone and actually found just 2 relevant result(at least in estonian)
Would you behave in a similar way?
-If it was me, I wouldn’t expect much of interaction from the app!(and wouldn’t be disappointed from the first option) but of course more interaction and attraction is always welcome.
Is there anything you would do differently?
-I personally dont like very crowded apps, so when the app has too many features it confuses me and the features will be useless for me.

The scenario seemed realistic especially due to the setting in the evening, as it is probably the most popular time of day for learning driving theory, which makes one consider the fatigue factor when using this app.
As I very rarely use apps, my main problem would be not realising to search for one, but if I were told about it, I would definitely look it up. So, this could be kept in mind when thinking about reaching potential users.
A question that came to mind was that whether it is just a kind of a database of traffic signs or is the information provided in the order in correlation with the conventional material? I.e. could one perhaps substitute the “conventional materials” with the app altogether?

I can totally relate myself to the scenario, it seems absolutely realistic.
2. Were there any details that didn’t seem that realistic?
As for me the persona is too engaged with the app, but the tools of gamification are not described in this particular scenario.
3. Would you behave in a similar way?
Don’t think so, personally I would us this kind of app in public transport or lines while waiting to refresh my memory about signs.

Yes I could imagine myself in the shoes of Kristina.

I can not imagine animations very well (speed limit signs, “no horn” sign e.g.) And how does it help in the learning process. Signs are simplified pictograms, animations seem to be step back of the simplification level.
Would you behave in a similar way?
Yes, I would look for app-solution and would definitely compare different solutions on app-store.

I would use iPhone and App Store 🙂

I think this is well-written and very realistic scenario. I could see myself using this kind of app when I have to learn traffic signs. When using the app at home, I would prefer to use it on a tablet because of a larger screen.
