Kristina is currently going to driving school. Since she is a busy woman, she uses the e-learning opportunity. She is driving home from work by bus, which is a perfect moment for her to study, because it’s a half hour long ride. She doesn’t have the traffic books with her, but fortunately she has found an app that is with her everywhere because it’s in her smart phone. Now she can learn any time she has a free moment.
She already downloaded the app which is meant for learning traffic signs and she has used it effectively for couple of times. She starts with learning by looking every sign and explanation one by one. She likes that the explanations are simple and understandable. She skips some signs that she already knows and enjoys the short animations linked with many signs, because it makes studying much more interesting. Sometimes the animation is so understandable that she even doesn’t have to read through the explanation. She likes that the signs stick to her mind much more easily. She remembers one sign that was confusing in last driving lesson. She finds it very easily thanks to the search engine of the app where she can search according to (for example) the shape of the sign, and she knows that the sign she needs to find is triangular. When she memorizes this sign, she can continue exactly where she stopped before. After some time of effective learning she decides to test her knowledge. She switches to the testing function of the app and she likes that tests have multiple answers, just as the theory tests in driving school. She goes through several tests one by one and sees that learning has paid off and she already knows much more than before. Suddenly she notices that she has to go off the bus and she closes the app fast.

In this scenario, the setting for using this app seems perfect, because Kristina doesn’t have to be too aware of her surroundings, so I would definitely use the app in a similar situation.
When reading the scenario I was wondering how are the different types of search option displayed. The shapes for example. Is there an option to pick from a selection of icons or keywords?
I think the app makes learning traffic signs definitely easier, especially due to the examples provided, since I find creating associations an effective learning method.

That transport situation made me think about the notifications. Do you have notifications for the users who are forgetting about their test practice?

I could relate to learning traffic signs in the app scenario.
It is hard to understand what are the animations and how do they help the study process. How would speed limit sign-animation look like?
The part about “explanations are simple and understandable” is a bit confusing. Are descriptions different that in typical traffic books? When I learned driving theory the vocabulary used in sign descriptions was important because the same language was used in exams. Using the same language would reduce confusion.

Searching by the shape of the sign is a good idea!
